On the occasion of November 28, 2009, the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, decorated Mr. Mohamed Ould Bouamatou with the rank of Commander of the National Order of Merit for his foundation and his fight against blindness and trachoma in Mauritania and in the sub-region.
