The Bouamatou Foundation has as strategic objectives to:
• Contribute to the prevention of blindness in Mauritania • Make the most modern treatments accessible to the most underprivileged population
In this sense, the foundation sets itself the following specific objectives:
• The promotion and development of ophthalmology (in its clinical and public health aspects) in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. • Participation in the theoretical and practical training of the medical and paramedical staff needed to fight against blindness. • The free provision of quality ophthalmological services for the most disadvantaged population, ranging from consultations to surgery, including additional examinations • Providing practical educational messages for eye health, using the most suitable media.
All the programs and activities of the foundation are planned and developed in strict conformity with the recommendations and prescriptions of the strategic and operational plans of the National Blindness Control Program of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, particularly regarding:
o The establishment of the trachoma control program o The creation of eye care centers with a surgical vocation o Participation in campaigns for screening or prevention of eye diseases o The reintegration of the visually impaired and the blind
