The Bouamatou Foundation, through its campaigns to fight against Trachoma, travels across Mauritania and sub-regions. It conducts prevalence and impact surveys in order to determine the regions and populations to be treated and/or treated again.
The Bouamatou Foundation goes to very hard-to-reach places where remote populations often have limited access to healthcare. Thus, the Trachoma operations carried out each year support the efforts of public authorities in the field of health.
The Bouamatou Foundation, in collaboration with ITI (International Trachoma Initiative) and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs through PNLC (National Programme for the Fight against Blindness), has covered all the costs for the distribution of an antibiotic called AZITHROMYCIN in the form of tablets or syrup throughout the national territory.
Moreover, the teams from the Bouamatou Foundation carry out awareness and prevention campaigns regarding hygiene and screening.
In this context, training sessions are provided for medical staff at health posts visited during the operations to fight against Trachoma.
